Life After Birth-Mom’s Cafe

Life After Birth:

Mom’s Cafe, in 2 locations

The days and weeks after birth can be a little surprising. Emotions may feel up and down; you love your baby but your body hurts in ways you didn’t expect. Your friends may seem different now – you’re a mom. Life changes. Our “Life After Birth” events offer a safe place to be raw and open with other women who just get it.

Mothers are invited to bring their babies, sit with other freshly birthed women and process their birth experiences. Your birth may have been everything you had hoped for or maybe you had a different experience than what you expected. It can be therapeutic and provide a sense of peace in telling your story. Feel free to share your triumphs, your traumas, your tears both good and not so good. This is your space.

You may also benefit from hearing the stories of other mothers and sharing in their healing or rejoicing. Just being around babies and showing off your own is a healing elixir. Come and find your tribe of women who listen with compassionate understanding and no judgement. We’ll have some healthy snacks to share with you. This is a ladies only event.

Birth changes our bodies. Our current culture seems to work against what nature requires, and that is time and healing. It takes 9 months to grow a human being. The very thought that a woman is expected to take on her normal everyday tasks so quickly while still adjusting to new motherhood has taken us down an unhealthy path. Your pelvic floor and abdominal musculature needs time to realign and settle. Then and only then are you physically ready to begin strengthening and restructuring exercise.

Our physiotherapist will help you feel what is happening in your own body, locating the muscles that support your abdomen and pelvic floor.

Any birth, vaginal or cesarean, intact perineum or tear – these are common questions:

• When can I start to exercise?

• How much – and how much is too much?

• How often and what to do?

• Where do I start?

• Where did my abdominal muscles go?

You must register for Mom’s Cafe.

Location, directions and entrance instructions are emailed to registered participants.
